Sun Vow Jewelry Designer Sydney Long Shares How She Layers Her Pieces

Sun Vow Jewelry Designer Sydney Long Shares How She Layers Her Pieces
June 2025

Look for her collaborations with Megan Molten and Kenny Flowers this summer

The North Carolina native fell in love with Charleston as a high school student, surfing in competitions on Folly Beach, and later attended College of Charleston, where she studied Spanish and studio art. While working as a buyer for a local brand, the self-described “DIY girl” often wore jewelry she crafted, prompting frequent customer inquiries about where to find it. Long launched Sun Vow Jewelry during the 2019 holiday season, featuring gold pieces inspired by time spent soaking up the sun. This season, look for her new “Summer Nostalgia” collection and collaborations with North Carolina-based swimwear brand LainSnow, interior designer Megan Molten, and Kenny Flowers, as well as pop-ups around town. Here, Long shares how she layers her pieces and what’s in her beach bag.

Q What’s your favorite way to style your jewelry?
A
I’m a layers girl for sure; I love telling a different story in each piece and playing with length, texture, and shapes when pairing pieces. I love inviting a different mood every day. It’s fun to let jewelry amplify different facets of ourselves—from fun and carefree in the Sun Vow “Soulmates” necklace to bold and edgy in the “Sun Panther” chain (bottom left), or elegant in the “Realm” choker (above).

Q Who are some of your favorite local designers?
A
I’m a fan of Citrine Swim, Kindred Label, Ro Sham Beaux, and Megan Molten! I’m loving Kindred’s “Catherine Slide” (above) paired with Citrine’s “Breaker” dress and “Luna” swimsuit in “Olive Palmas.”

Q What’s in your virtual shopping cart that you hope to purchase soon?
A
I’m eyeing a Kenny Flowers sundress from the “Dubai” collection (above). I also keep adding to my Reset Athletic collection; my favorites are the “Catie Deep V” bras because they can be worn with dress pants or a high-waisted maxi skirt for that resort look I love.

Q What’s in your beach bag?
A
I love my beach tote by Augustine Hat Co. (above) based out of North Carolina. I always have my 32-ounce Nalgene water bottle, sunscreen, my favorite Layday towel, and a good design magazine. I bring Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, or Vogue to read by the pool or beach as I feel most inspired by the water, and I love to look through fashion, decor, and design in this state of mind.

Q Tell us about your skin-care routine.
A
I couldn’t live without RMS Beauty’s Hydra Dew Luminizer (above). I was guilty in the past of not knowing enough about the importance of sunscreen (from those surf contest days), and now, I do not spend more than five minutes in the sun without having SPF 50 on my face and body. I love Vacation sunscreen (above).
